STHE EFFECT OF MODULAR LEARNING ON THE ACHIEVEMENT OF GRADE 8 STUDENTS IN PHYSICS
Due to Corona Virus pandemic that the Philippines are facing right now, Department of Education and the National Government decided and implemented the use of distance learning for the students this school year. Which is a learning delivery mode where interaction takes place between the teacher and the students who are geographically remote from each other during instruction. This means lessons will be delivered outside the traditional face-to-face setup. Based on the survey, 7 out of 10 parents and learners would likely use modular learning approach because of lack of gadgets and other resources for online learning. This action research focuses on the study of the effectiveness of modular learning on the achievement and performance of selected group of grade 8 students in Science subject at San Roque National High School particularly in Physics.

According to George Lucas, “The one way the world hasn’t changed: Teaching is the most important job.” This supports the profession’s nobility—that without it there could be no other professionals around. This qualitative study assessed the social studies teachers’ proclivities to teach world history, by (1) analyzing their learning styles and their likelihood to teach using the brain quadrants; (2) describing the actual demonstration based on selected lessons in each unit of work, and (3) generating themes based on their values, expressions, impressions and written commitments. The study employed a typical case analysis of a selected cluster of Social Studies teachers, among the five city divisions in Cebu, who attended the Grade 9 Mass Training for Social Studies in summer, 2014. A researchermade-questionnaire, designed according to the Ned Hermann’s Brain Quadrants, was administered before the start of the training. Narratives on their challenging moments during the five-day training-workshop were generated, clustered and analyzed. Actual observations on their attendance, participation in break-out and plenary sessions and teaching demonstrations were also observed. Significant insights, expressions, impressions, and personal commitments were recorded. Their proclivities to teach world history before and during the training were consistent with their behavior and performance as shown in the actual planning and teaching demonstration on the KPUP Model of Teaching. Receptiveness, cautious assessment, holistic teaching, dynamic synergy, candidness, sincerity, and honest commitments were useful themes that consequently generated the values of self-regulation, extraversion, agreeableness and openness (Mirhashemi & Goodarzi, 2014) for the successful implementation of the K to 12. At the outset, not one of the groups in the cluster showed a perfect whole brain propensity to teach world history—a challenge that they needed to address right after the training. The concern for quality education has since been acknowledged as a tradition, a basic tenet subscribed to by the educational sector and the school system at all levels. The concept of quality is seen as a pursuit for academic excellence, a byword, a commitment that school colleges and universities uphold through a set of tools to assure quality and standards. It is quality that focuses on the students, and the teaching learning process that requires a high degree of resolve and flexibility. As it is, there is a continuing demand for quality in education that is equated with academic competence, a performance that can be at par with other graduates across countries because it offers the best opportunities for individual transformation and career growth. In the face of technological changes dramatically affecting school operations, education is now assessed in the light of students’ expectations of how well they can grow professionally and survives competition in the process. They have been critical of the kind of college degree that can pass the standards of quality learning adequate preparation and the sought after timeliness. It is in the perspective of continuous quality improvement that institutions, particularly the graduate schools have encouraged performance oriented investigations primarily aimed at identifying determinants of academic performance and acquiring knowledge of new and preferred teaching strategies that will bring out the best in the learners. While conditions and conventions within the environment are changing, researches have been conducted to pinpoint the factors that either impinge on the quality of educational outputs or contribute a high level of academic performance. There is therefore a felt need to anticipate implications of such to the institutions. At present there is a realignment of new educational requirements in support of the ambitious long-term goals of the Millennium Development that would bring about a renewed focus on academic excellence in all disciplines. With the emergence of knowledge societies there is an urgent call to include the school system and its components in particular, the faculty and students in the national priorities to achieve a competitive advantage. There have been innovations adapted in the area of instruction to prepare students for knowledge societies that will require learners to assess, adapt, and apply knowledge and in particular to access. For this reason, the benefits of computer assisted instruction have been studied. Moreover, others have focused on home factors, parental involvement, teaching styles, language proficiency and their implications on the level of academic performance. Along with these realities is the urgent call for educational institutions to do a rethinking of education that will provide the kind of instruction that offers valuable contributions in terms of educational experiences for improved academic performance.
The metrics of school performance is the quality of instruction that translates to the quality of graduates. They are the products of the educational system that meet the society’s expectations. To this end, the school provides a continuum in the learning process that would ensure the acquisition of desired learning competencies, higher quality programs for an improved level of performance, knowledge creation and eventually opportunities for career progression. Through the decades there have been unrelenting initiatives to improve the students’ academic performance, to address the issues on low turnout of quality graduates and poor performance in particular in the subject areas of English, Mathematics and Science. The quality of students that impacts on performance has been a recurring issue. Along this line, there is a need for rethinking the crucial role of teacher, home, community stakeholders, instructional facilities, discipline, behavior and environment in the academic performance, if learners are to grow and develop their full potential. It is performance that enables them to achieve a quality of life that can survive the effects of the confluence of environment, social, political and economic issues. Given an effective learning environment, they will eventually acquire a preparation that conforms to international standards. The continuous conduct of investigations related to performance is evidenced in a number of masteral theses in this journal issue that focus on factors affecting academic performance that include stakeholders’ involvement, educational facilities, classroom management, teaching strategies, home influence, community involvement, behavioral problems and parental support. Even the effect of multigrade classes on performance was explored. The studies are in keeping with the growing recognition of assessment initiatives to arrest the poor and deteriorating state of education, to institute quality control standards for performance and to address the issue of quality, access and equity. The success efforts to level up academic performance is acknowledged to be a collective responsibility of all those who hold stakes in education.

Pangasinan learners of the Philippines were culturally profiled by determining the cultural dimensions, epistemological beliefs and students' views on integration of culture and language in the teaching and learning process. Figure 1 is a summary of the students’ learning throughout the learning segment. I administrated this test as a pre-assessment prior to the lesson one and administered it again after the completion of lesson 3. This test is a compilation of students’ learning and it demonstration how they met the standards and objectives that were set out for them to achieve. The evaluation criteria in which this assessment and all other assessment in the individual lessons did was not altered. Second, I would introduce a problem that the student might find interesting and excite their interest for the challenge of solving a long division problem. Third, I would model how to work through some long division problems with the use of material scaffolding in the form of the mnemonic device and guided examples mentioned in answer 4-B. Fourth, I would use the mnemonic device as a handout, and poster on a wall, to let practice my student practice long division problems with the mnemonic device as a reminder tool. There are other ways you can learn in the classroom, you can learn from the environment that is around you. This process is known as enculturation and it can affect and even enhance learning. Repetition is what really affects someone in a culture. By seeing, hearing, and doing things over and over they start to become part of who you are. From the class I observed I noticed that the teacher often used repetition as the way to get the students to learn and get the correct answer. She did not simply tell the student what was wrong or the correct answer when they were wrong, she simply just said that is not the correct answer try again. This taught the students that the correct answer will not always be given to them right away, that they must work until they get it themselves. Rebellion, revolution, boycotting and even riots, have led to tensions between the two races. Additionally, desegregating schools led to a learning gap between black and white students. The Constitution states that no state can make the law that takes away the rights and privileges of citizens making them immune to it. Desegregation of public places should be allowed because it is inequitable to separate humans based on the color or pigmentation of their skin.
