How to Choose a Phone Plan for Your Business
Every company needs an effective phone plan for their business. It’s important for all your employees to be able to communicate with each other. You also need to ensure that you can take phone calls from clients when they need to reach you. There are many office, VoIP and cell plans available, and your choice depends on what’s best for you. Here’s how to choose the best phone plan for your business.
The Types of Business Plan
If you’re looking for the perfect business phone plan, you need to think about which will benefit your organization most. There are loads to choose from and each have their advantages and disadvantages. It’s essential for businesses to have the best communications systems, because without this you’ll lose potential customers. Many people choose systems based on their convenience, but also look at how effective they are, the costs and if the system is up to date.
With so many options, businesses rarely know where to start. However, your primary goals will enable you to find the best phone plan for your business. Do you have a large team and need a strong internal communications system? Is saving money your primary goal? Here are some business phone plans, and their benefits.
Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
VoIP is taking over the business world, and many companies are ditching their landline service for the internet-based phone solutions. While making international calls on landlines is expensive, VoIP enables you to call anywhere in the world for no extra cost. Phone calls take place over the internet, and you can reach your employees wherever they are.
There are many VoIP solutions, including basic packages, options for mid-sized businesses and high-end solutions. It’s important to think about which solution is best for your business and avoid any hidden costs associated with high-end solutions. VoIP is great for companies and there is a range of technological benefits you won’t find with other providers. Search online to find the best VoIP providers.
Private Branch Exchange (PBX)
PBX uses hardware to route all calls through the office to and from a central connection. It connects all employees and enables easy transfers. PBX has many benefits, including its cost-effective solutions. Employees can make internal calls without the needs of connecting to an external network. This means that businesses can save money on phone calls, which is especially useful for small companies.
There are automatic capabilities, meaning PBX systems can automatically route calls. Basically, PBX offers an all-in-one solution, but it isn’t as technologically convenient as VoIP solutions. It depends on your needs, but remember PBX systems are best if you use over 12 phone lines. Smaller businesses might find that installing and maintaining a PBX system is too expensive.
Small businesses have one thing on their mind; money. They need to find cost-effective solutions to grow their business, but not bankrupt them. Most small companies use manual key-systems to route phone calls. As you add more lines, you’ll find a manual system less convenient and harder to manage.
Key systems are great when businesses are starting out, but if your business is growing then it’s best to choose between a PBX or VoIP solution. There are many positives to manual key systems, and providers are combining technology with the systems to make them better for small business owners to maximize their internal and external communications.
Is the price right? That’s what you should be considering. Many phone providers will offer comprehensive packages for both office and cell use. Combining these will save you money in the long-term and enable you to streamline your communication procedure. The more technology you want, the higher the price. You should weigh up the benefits of cost and convenience when making your decision.
Speak to providers and ask them what bundles they offer. You’ll want to supply your employees with cell phones if they travel out of the office regularly. Choosing a phone system doesn’t have to be complicated if you know what you’re looking for and consider your price limits.

How to Get a Phone Plan That’s Right For You
Are you in the market for a new phone plan? Maybe you’re looking to switch providers — or maybe you’re just not too sure about how phone plans work. Whatever the case might be, this guide is for you. Here, we’ll break down everything you need to know about how to get a phone plan that’s right for you, your budget and others who may be sharing your plan.
Best Mobile Phone Plans
If you’re looking for the best mobile phone plan in the United States, you have a few options to choose from:
- Verizon’s 5G Play More Plan is a great option for those who want access to Disney+, a streaming game subscription, and 25GB of hotspot data.
- Mint Mobile’s Unlimited Plan is another great option, offering $30 a month that must be committed to for a year after 3 months.
- T-Mobile’s Magenta Unlimited Plan is perfect for those who want 1 year of Apple TV and Paramount Plus, as well as 5GB of hotspot data.
- AT&T’s Value Plan Plus is a great choice for those who need unlimited talk, text, and data when traveling in Mexico and Canada.
What Is the Cheapest Phone Plan?
Although prices fluctuate — and there are deals to be had — these are currently some of the cheapest phone plans available in the U.S. right now:
- Mint Mobile: 4GB for $15/month
- Tello: 1GB for $10/month
- T-Mobile: 3GB for $15/month
- Verizon: 15GB for $40/month
How Much Is a Single Cell Phone Plan?
The cost of a single cell phone plan really varies depending on the carrier and the type of plan that you choose. For example, Mint Mobile offers a 4GB data plan for $15 per month, while Verizon’s 5G Play More unlimited data plan costs $80 per month. So, it really just depends on your needs and budget when choosing a cell phone plan. Just make sure to do your research to find the best deal for you.
What Is the Cheapest Cell Phone Plan For Two?
There are a lot of ways to save money on your cell phone bill, but if you’re looking for the absolute cheapest plan for two lines, you’ll want to take a close look at Tello and Mint Mobile. Both of these companies offer extremely competitive pricing, with Tello starting at just $10 per line and Mint Mobile coming in at $15 per line.
If you’re willing to sacrifice some of the bells and whistles that come with more expensive plans, either of these could be a great option for you.
Who Has The Best Cell Phone Family Plan?
T-Mobile’s Magenta plan offers 4 lines for $160/month while Verizon’s 5G Play More plan offers 4 lines for $180 per month.
T-Mobile’s Magenta plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data with no overage fees. You also get free Netflix with this plan. However, there are some drawbacks: for starters, taxes and fees are not included in the $160 per month price, so you’ll end up paying a bit more than what’s quoted.
Verizon’s 5G Play More plan also includes unlimited talk, text and data with no overage fees. You also get a complimentary Apple Music subscription with this plan. However, like the T-Mobile Magenta plan, taxes and fees are not included in the advertised price of $180 per month. On the plus side, though, Verizon’s network is much more widely available than T-Mobile’s, so you’ve got a better chance of having a signal no matter where you go.
What Is the Best Phone Plan For Seniors?
One option is Ultra Mobile’s senior citizen discount plan. This plan offers 100MB of data for just $3 per month. That’s a great deal for seniors who only use their phones for basic tasks .
Another option is Verizon’s 55 Plus Unlimited plan. This plan gives seniors unlimited talk, text, and data to use each month. The price is $60 per month, or $80 for two lines. This plan is a good option for seniors who use their phones frequently.
What Is The Best Phone Plan For A Child?
If you’re not sure where to start, Mint Mobile offers an unlimited $30 per month plan that’s perfect for kids who need a lot of data. For families with multiple children, Verizon’s Just Kids Plan offers 2 lines for $110 per month with great parental controls. Ultimately, the best phone plan for your child — and your family as a whole — depends on needs and budget.
Can You Buy a Phone Without a Plan?
The short answer is “yes” — but there are a few things you need to know first. When you buy a phone outright, it’s usually unlocked , which means you can use it with any carrier. However, some carriers will sell phones that are locked to their network, so be sure to ask before you buy.
If you decide to buy an unlocked phone, you’ll need to choose a carrier and sign up for a plan. Once you have a plan, you can either activate the phone on the carrier’s website or visit a retail store to get started. Keep in mind that even if you buy an unlocked phone, you’ll still need to pay for a data plan.
Can I Use a 5G Phone On a 4G Plan?
Yes, you can use a 5G phone on a 4G plan. In fact, most carriers offer support for 5G phones on their 4G plans. Still, keep in mind that 5G service is not yet widely available, so you might not be able to take full advantage of your 5G phone’s many features if you aren’t in a coverage area.
Additionally, your data speeds will likely be slower on a 4G plan than on a 5G plan. That said, if you’re looking to upgrade to a 5G phone and don’t want to switch plans just yet, you should be able to do so without any major issues.
What Is a Prepaid Phone Plan?
A prepaid phone plan is a service offered by many cell phone providers that allows customers to pay for their monthly service upfront. This type of plan can be a great option for those who want to avoid the hassle of a contract, or for those who want to save money on their monthly bill.
Prepaid plans typically require customers to purchase a certain amount of minutes, texts, and data each month. Once the customer has used up their allotted minutes, texts, or data, they will need to replenish their account in order to continue using the service. This can be done by purchasing a new card or adding money to an existing account.
How To Add Someone to Your Phone Plan
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to add someone to your cell phone plan:
- Check with your carrier to see if you can add a line.
- Choose the type of line you want to add.
- Decide who will pay for the new line.
- Get the new phone and activate the new line.
- Add the new line to your existing account.
- Start using your new line!
How To Get Off Someone’s Phone Plan
The first thing you’ll need to do is contact the wireless carrier that’s currently providing service for the account in question. Explain to them that you need to be removed as a line on the account. They’ll likely ask for some information to verify your identity and/or the identity of the primary account holder.
Once they have verified your identity, the carrier will process your request and remove you from the account. If you’re the primary account holder, you may also be able to add a new line or lines at this time.
If you’re not the primary account holder, you’ll need to contact the person who is in order to have them make any and all changes to the account. That includes removing someone from a plan. That said, the primary account holder will need to contact the wireless carrier and request that you be removed as a line on the account.

Best Overall Business Cell Phone Plan
Starting price, free hardware available, international coverage.
RingCentral is a far cry from your traditional business cell phone plan. It does not offer a wireless network or devices for your team. Instead, this VoIP service offers a monthly (or annual) subscription to software you can use from a computer, tablet or smartphone via an app. In most cases, subscribing to RingCentral and having your team log in to the app via their accounts is a lot more affordable than going with one of the big wireless carriers. Therefore, it is our top overall pick for business cell phone plans.
Regardless of which plan you choose, all versions of RingCentral come standard with the following:
- Unlimited calls within the United States and Canada
- Unlimited business short message service (SMS)
- Team member messaging
- Voicemail to text
- Document sharing
- Toll-free numbers
Service plan costs vary depending on how many people you employ. Pricing for two to 20 users on an annual basis is as follows:
- Essentials: $19.99 per user, per month with unlimited domestic calling, SMS, document sharing and voicemail-to-text functionality
- Standard: $27.99 per user, per month with unlimited fax, video calling for up to 100 people, the ability to adopt a number in more than 100 countries and more
- Premium: $34.99 per user, per month with automatic call recording, third-party software integrations and more
- Ultimate: $49.99 per user, per month with advanced status reports, alerts and unlimited online file storage
RingCentral’s plans offer features that aren’t available through larger carriers. The fact that RingCentral offers toll-free numbers is helpful in commanding a more professional business presence, and features like video calling and faxing are nice bonuses. RingCentral also has an intuitive, modern interface that closely resembles your smartphone’s default phone and texting apps. Once it is installed, you can think of the app as a business phone that lives in your personal phone.
The only downside with RingCentral as a business cell phone plan is it requires a fair amount of trust. On one end, you will need to consider whether or not you can count on your team members to keep company information secure if the app is installed on their personal devices. Additionally, your staff may not feel comfortable with having their work phone installed onto their smartphones.
While the lines between work and home continue to blur, thanks in large part to apps like Slack and Zoom, you might want to evaluate your company culture before moving forward. It’s also worth noting that all of RingCentral’s features can be used on a PC or Mac.
Who should use it:
RingCentral’s pricing and features make it a good fit for businesses of every size.
- Free 15-day trial
- Very affordable monthly plans
- Able to customize service by business size and industry
- Available across multiple devices
- Possible to video conference with up to 200 people
- Must upgrade for 24/7 customer support and, even then, it apparently leaves a lot to be desired
- Plans get inexplicably more expensive for sole proprietors
- Can only rent phones with multi-year contracts
Best for Traditional Plans and VoIP Features
Plans as low as $30 per month, per line
Verizon is one of the largest carriers in operation, with coverage and services spanning from coast to coast and beyond. The company makes our list as it provides solid cell phone plans for small and large businesses alike. You can choose from one of several subscription options according to what works best for your company.
Flexible Business Wireless Plans
The Flexible Business Wireless Plan offers unlimited domestic talk and text, unlimited international messaging and a mobile hotspot. It also comes with a sharable data pool for your phones, tablets and other devices. You can even gain access to corporate email services.
What makes this plan “flexible” is that you get to choose the amount of data you want to add to your smartphone, tablet or both. The pricing plans vary according to the amount of data you need for your device. Use a handy calculator to determine how much smartphone or tablet data you’ll need to get an idea of your expected monthly price.
Business Unlimited Plans
These Verizon business phone subscriptions provide companies with unlimited talk, text and data through three tier levels: Start. 2.0, Plus 2.0 and Pro 2.0:
- Business Unlimited Start 2.0: As low as $30 per month when you add five or more lines. Includes unlimited talk, text and data; 5G nationwide/4G LTE and call filter
- Business Unlimited Plus 2.0: As low as $35 per month with five or more lines; it includes everything in Start plus 5G Ultra Wideband, 100 GB Premium network access and an unlimited mobile hotspot. The tier also offers Business Mobile Secure, which protects your smartphones against potential security threats.
- Business Unlimited Pro 2.0: As low as $45 per month when you buy five or more lines; offers unlimited Premium Network Access and a 50% discount on Business Unlimited Pro tablet plans
The monthly plan price fluctuates according to the number of smartphone lines you buy. Although Verizon offers generous price discounts with each tier, smaller businesses might find the pricing plans a bit expensive, even excessive if they don’t need five or more lines.
Verizon lets you bring your own device (BYOD) to the service and even offers discount deals for doing so. However, not every device is compatible, and the brand recommends confirming compatibility before making the switch. Verizon often offers free phones or generous credit, between $200 and $1,000, toward purchasing a new phone.
Like many service providers, Verizon tends to automate customer support to the point where some customers struggle to speak with an actual human. Because it can be hard to talk to anyone, customers often find Verizon’s customer service somewhat lacking. To make up for this, Verizon offers a feature in which an agent will call you when one is available if you don’t feel like waiting on hold.
Verizon represents a more traditional phone plan structure, one with its service easily accessible across the country and via different locations worldwide. As such, even pricing and customer service issues are but minor deterrents. You’re still getting a big carrier plan with coverage in most of the United States and a wide range of service plans and devices to suit your needs.
Verizon works well for small to large businesses with a healthy budget.
- Nationwide coverage
- Offers mobile VPN with certain plans
- Data, calls and texting available to use while in Canada and Mexico
- Ability to mix and match plans
- Could be overkill for smaller organizations
- Plans can get expensive
Best for Sole Proprietors and Freelancers
Free version available, with plans starting at $10 per month, per user
Google Voice is an ideal choice for those who need an extra business phone number but might not be able to afford a complex and pricey service plan. Google Voice is a popular virtual phone service that offers call forwarding, voice and text messaging and voicemail options. Best of all, there is a version of the system that is entirely free to use as long as you have a Google Account.
Google Voice is popular for offering an impressive set of functionality in its free tier. As long as you have a personal Google Account, you can adopt a local number with nearly any area code in the United States. You can make unlimited domestic calls and texts across the U.S. and Canada from your phone or computer.
Because Google Voice is a free service, it can be especially useful to a small, cash-strapped business that wants to be able to make and receive calls without committing to pricier service plans offered by AT&T or T-Mobile. Though an existing number is required, once you link it to Google Voice, you’re able to communicate using virtually any device. If your business needs more than what the freeware offers, you can sign up for one of Google Voice’s subscription plans:
- Starter: $10 per user, per month; recommended for entrepreneurs or small businesses with 10 people or less
- Standard: $20 per user, per month; works for businesses of any size
- Premier: $30 per user, per month; aimed at larger, international companies
Once you upgrade, you can enjoy features such as unlimited domestic calling and text, voicemail transcripts, a “do not disturb” feature linked to your Google Calendar working hours, use and activity reports and 24-hour technical support. Upgrade to Standard or Premier for additional perks, including desk-phone compatibility, auto attendants and eDiscovery for calls, text messages and voicemail.
Overall, Google Voice offers businesses several benefits at either no cost or through very affordable service plans. Even if there are downsides, with the amount of free features, Google Voice is a beneficial service.
Google Voice works best for organizations, small and large, that want a business cell phone plan that streamlines their contacts across multiple devices.
- Free version available
- 14-day trial for paid features
- Highly scalable, with service options for businesses of every size and budget
- Get a local number
- Unlimited calling and SMS
- Need an existing phone number to forward calls
- Must have internet/Wi-Fi connection to use
Best for Mobile Security
$30 per line, per month
We chose AT&T Wireless as it offers flexible cell phone plan options with plenty of added perks. With AT&T, your company has access to nationwide coverage and a range of plans that come standard with unlimited talk, text and data.
In addition to domestic coverage, AT&T provides unlimited talk and text from the United States to Canada or Mexico with no roaming fees. Some plan options even extend service options from the U.S. to up to 120 countries. It is crucial to note that some features are only available through devices compatible with AT&T’s service.
You can choose between one of several business-related subscription plans, priced per month and per smartphone line. AT&T’s best per-line pricing options come with six or more lines.
Unlimited Your Way
AT&T provides unlimited business service plans that let you choose only what you need for team members. There are three tiers available; you can purchase between one and 10 lines with these plans (per the Unlimited Your Way plan group), with per-month pricing fluctuating according to your decision.
- Business Unlimited Starter: Begins at $30 per month, per line with five or more lines and includes unlimited domestic talk, text and data, and unlimited talk and text to Canada and Mexico; offers access to AT&T’s 5G and 5G+ services on compatible devices where available and standard streaming and mobile security
- Business Unlimited Performance: Begins at $35 per month, paid per line with five or more lines. It includes everything in Starter, plus advanced mobile security and high-definition streams; each line has access to 30 GB of hotspot data.
- Business Unlimited Elite: Begins at $45 per month and per line for five or more lines; this plan adds AT&T Business Fast Track, which gives higher priority to your data usage, letting things run smoothly during times of high congestion; the plan gives you 100 GB of hotspot data
AT&T Mobile Select (Pooled)
Perhaps one device needs 5 GB per month while another only needs 2 GB. Pooling data means that each team member only uses a specific amount and your business only pays for exactly what it needs. In addition to pooled data, this plan provides unlimited talk and text. Customers will also get access to Stream Saver, which conserves data when users stream content.
Depending on your device or location, AT&T also offers its Call Protect Basic service. Plans start at $35 per month for 1 GB and increase according to your intended data pool.
AT&T Business 4GB
This plan option gives your business access to 4 GB of data per line, plus unlimited talk and text. Pricing isn’t as straightforward as it could be. The most affordable plan costs $50 per month, per line, when you buy at least three lines; the service option maxing out at 10 lines. Please note that this price is only guaranteed when you agree to sign up for autopay. This knocks $25 off the price per smartphone line with a service commitment.
AT&T’s Security Features
AT&T offers protection against increasingly common annoyances such as spam and fraud calls, including the ability to block suspicious phone numbers outright. For an additional service charge, AT&T provides its Secure Wi-Fi VPN service through AT&T Mobile Security Plus. The most basic version of this is available free with every plan, and includes device security and breach reports. The add-on costs $3.99 per month and comes with a serious upgrade on secure mobile features:
- Secure Wi-Fi VPN
- Personal ID monitor
- Safe browsing
- Wi-Fi alerts
- Theft alerts (Android devices only)
If you’re looking for free hardware, AT&T Wireless does offer discounts and deals from time to time, including free phones or generous discounts towards the purchase of a qualifying phone.
AT&T’s business cell phone plans are impressive. Unfortunately, when things get congested, your service quality can drop substantially thanks to data caps and slowed coverage. AT&T often forces customers to upgrade to higher tiers to avoid slowdowns. The company’s plans can also get very expensive when you account for optional add-ons and devices.
AT&T Wireless is one of the larger service carriers, and so it can guarantee coverage and high-quality service to almost all of its customers. That said, its service fees could prove to be too expensive for smaller businesses with very tight budgets.
AT&T is best for mid to large-size companies with specific data needs and a desire for greater security when communicating or transferring information.
- Provides highly customizable business cell phone plans
- No roaming fees for Canada and Mexico
- Offers stellar mobile security add-ons
- No overage charges
- Data speeds drop when service gets very busy
- Add-ons and premium tiers can make the service pricey
Best for Novel and Unique Features
$25 per line, per month
T-Mobile is the third of the three biggest U.S. wireless carriers, after merging with Sprint in 2020. While it has all the standard functionality of the other business cell service providers, what makes it stand apart are its unique and novel bonuses that come with select plans. For instance, some plans come with Microsoft 365 and unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi.
T-Mobile offers limited and unlimited talk and text service in Canada and Mexico and standard 5G in its business packages. Additionally, all levels of T-Mobile’s business cell phone service come with its scam shield module, which identifies and warns you about known scam callers on your caller ID.
You get to choose from one of four service plans available for businesses, each priced per month and per line:
- Business Unlimited Select: Available for as low as $25 per month, per line when you purchase at least six lines; comes with 50 GB of premium data and 5 GB of hotspot data, limited talk and text to Mexico and Canada and unlimited standard definition streaming
- Business Unlimited Advanced: Available for as low as $30 per month, per line when you purchase at least six lines; includes one hour of free in-flight Wi-Fi,100 GB of premium data and a 40 GB hotspot plus unlimited talk, text and data in Canada and Mexico, as well as 5 GB of high-speed data at no extra cost; provides unlimited high definition streaming; includes two basic Microsoft 365 Business licenses
- Business Unlimited Ultimate: Available for as low as $40 per month, per line when you purchase at least six lines; unlimited access to premium data and 100 GB for your hotspot as well as unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi; get unlimited video streaming with quality up to 4K UHD
- Business Unlimited Ultimate+ for iPhone: Available for as low as $50 per month, per line when you purchase at least six lines; unlimited access to premium data and 200 GB for your hotspot as well as unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi; get unlimited video streaming with quality up to 4K UHD and Apple Business Essentials and AppleCare+
As mentioned, T-Mobile’s smartphone pricing will change depending on how many lines you choose to buy. You will be charged $60 per month for the most basic option if you only buy a single line. For this reason, smaller companies with tight budget constraints might find T-Mobile’s pricing to be too expensive, especially if they only need a few lines.
But for more mobile businesses who have employees constantly on the go, there are some really great perks. Offering access to unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi and unlimited talk, text and data to employees in Mexico and Canada could become a great selling point for your own brand.
Like most major carriers, there are a lot of customers competing for data priority. While T-Mobile offers access to this “premium data,” you have to pay a lot more out of pocket to ensure that your service doesn’t stagnate when things get particularly busy.
T-Mobile typically has multiple deals concerning phones, including free devices or credit up to a few hundred dollars towards buying a new smartphone. Like many such deals with carriers, they come with specific contract requirements, so it’s best to ask about the details before signing up.
T-Mobile seems best for businesses with team members who are constantly on the go, and can therefore better appreciate perks related to international travel and flights.
- Reliable 5G network
- Service plans offer unlimited talk, text and data in Canada and Mexico
- Optional perks such as in-flight Wi-Fi and Microsoft 365
- Plans are expensive for six or fewer lines
- Bonus features only available in advanced plans
When putting this ranking together, we considered several vital components. Forbes Advisor researched the industry and analyzed multiple companies and plans. Then, we scored these providers across four categories of features using 13 different metrics that were weighted to favor features that small business owners find valuable in a cell phone service provider. The following are some of the metrics that we used to rank the providers that made our list.
Our main concern when it came to pricing was if the service is affordable, especially for small businesses, especially for the entry-level plan. Then, we looked at the costs and variety of plans available from each provider and what kind of value that each upgrade brought to users. Pricing accounted for 30% of our weighted scoring.
We broke features into two distinct categories: general features and additional features. For general features, we looked at the offerings from each cell phone service provider that we considered to be common ones that every customer needs. Some of these general features include unlimited domestic calling and texting, international calling, conference calling and if any necessary hardware came free with the service. We weighted features at 45% of our total score.
For additional features, this included aspects of cell phone service that some users would consider to be nice to have, such as an automated attendant, mobile hotspot access and mobile security. For both kinds of features, we gave more weight to those that came automatically with the service as opposed to those that were add-ons that users had to pay additionally for. We weighted features at 15% of our total score.
Finally, based on our market research and the categories listed above, our experts also ranked additional criteria from customer reviews using metrics that included ease of use, popularity, value for the money and any stand-out features, such as offering international texting plans, mobile VPNs, free in-flight Wi-Fi, video calling and access to free local phone numbers. Altogether, these criteria make up 10% of the total score.
When selecting the best business cell phone plan for your company, there are a few factors to keep in mind. At the moment, for example, there are only three mainstream nationwide carriers. These larger carriers have pricing plans that might be too expensive for smaller businesses. Google Voice and RingCentral could work as much more affordable alternatives. We listed a few specific considerations in the sections below.
Smartphone Lines and Pricing
It’s a good idea to consider the number of lines your business needs, not to mention monthly or annual costs. Service providers will often offer a lower per-line price, but you’ll have to buy several lines to get the discount. It might be more affordable in the end to buy one or two lines rather than buy extra lines your company doesn’t need or can’t afford.
Free Phones and Purchase Credits
While the top carriers often allow you to BYOD, it might be possible to get at least one new phone for your business. If not a free phone, it’s common to provide you with substantial credit worth up to $1,000 towards the purchase of a brand-new smartphone.
A common caveat is this generosity gets tied to a long-term contract commitment. Do the month-to-month, and even year-to-year, math and decide what you’re willing to agree to in exchange for free or heavily discounted hardware. If all else fails, check to see if you can bring your existing devices with you to the new service provider. Some providers will let you do this at little to no extra charge.
International Perks or Availability
Many business cell phone plans focus on domestic features. Yet, if your brand is global, you’ll likely want to work with a company that offers talk, text and data options beyond American borders. Will data caps or a lack of in-flight Wi-Fi inhibit your ability to share information or communicate adequately? If you need worldwide service and support, it might be better to go with a much larger and more reliable carrier.
How ‘Unlimited’ is Unlimited?
When a phone service says that an offer is unlimited, it is rare that an asterisk does not accompany the promise. Not all unlimited pricing plans are the same. Often, when things get congested, you may find that your service quality drops significantly. So, you learn that while your service option may be technically unlimited, there’s no such promise about the quality.
Some providers offer tiers that guarantee high-quality service no matter what. It’s best to read between the lines of the fine print to see what type of unlimited service you are getting offered.
Who has the best business cell phone plan for small businesses?
We selected RingCentral as our top choice due to its affordable payment plan structure when compared to other telephone companies.
What cell phone companies are offering free phones?
AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are among the most popular brands known to offer a free phone when switching to their service. Brands often have such deals periodically, so it is good to stay updated about potential offers.
What is the average cost of small business cell phone plans?
Your final cost will depend entirely on the service package and the number of lines you have on your plan. With that in mind, smaller businesses can expect to pay anywhere from $29 and $69 per smartphone line per month. That does not include any additional hardware costs. Be sure to research and compare brands to find the price that works best for your business.
Who has the best unlimited talk, text and data plans?
We recommend RingCentral, Verizon and AT&T Wireless. Verizon and AT&T offer more comprehensive unlimited plans. Meanwhile, RingCentral’s options are generally more affordable.

Why We Chose Verizon, AT&T, and Xfinity Mobile:
Verizon is one of the largest network providers in the United States . With plans for as little as four employees, Verizon offers phone packages suitable for small and large teams. All of Verizon's phone bundles include great unlimited features, including unlimited calling, texting, and data while in Canada and Mexico.
Verizon is ideal for businesses that plan on supplying their employees with handsets . The network provider offers nearly 100 different iOS and Android phones and tablets for teams that are constantly on the go.
All of AT&T's plans offer great unlimited features , including unlimited data and calling in Canada and Mexico, as well as unlimited international texting, domestic calling, and free domestic roaming. AT&T's Business Unlimited Plan comes in three variations: Starter, Performance, and Elite. With all three plans, users also have access to 5G network.
Xfinity Mobile offers a large variety of plans for businesses to choose from , with prices ranging between $30.00 and $240.00 per line. Thanks to its multi-line pricing system, businesses pay less as more lines are added to their plan. Xfinity Mobile also offers 4G LTE and 5G network access, making it great for employees who are always on the move.
Things to Consider When Evaluating Small Business Cell Phone Plans:
- Carefully consider the contract as most plans require business owners to sign up for extended contract periods of one to two years.
- Check coverage and compare it to where your employees live and travel. Some cell companies offer better coverage in rural areas, others offer much less expensive international plans.
- Keeping up with the latest in phone technology could be important to your business, so see how often the contract entitles you to new phones.
Best Business Cell Phone Plans:
How to choose a business cell phone plan:, 1. look at your business's communication needs..

2. choose a plan designed for businesses..
Look for plans with multiple lines and unlimited talk, text, or data options. In addition, your plan should be tailored to fit your specific business. If you won't require talk options, look into business text and email plans.
3. Make good network coverage a priority.
Your plan should have excellent coverage in your area, especially if your business requires strong talk capabilities. Consider sound quality, speed, and network coverage. More importantly, your network coverage should be reliable in urban and remote areas.
Best Network Coverage:
T-Mobile provides the widest network coverage, making it the best fit for businesses that operate in urban areas. Since acquiring Sprint's network in 2020, T-Mobile's network coverage has grown exponentially, narrowly surpassing Verizon's coverage in the U.S.
4. Look for strong security features.
Instead of paying for a separate network security service, look into network providers that include VPNs and encryption with their cell phone plans. Your business's private information is a top priority and with so many open networks, you'll want to ensure your and customer's information is secure.
Best Security Features:
5. purchase hardware..
You can either ask employees to use their own smartphones or you can supply them with hardware. This option should only be considered if your business has off-site teams. Look into the hardware and handsets on offer and compare the plans that offer data and hardware bundles.
Common Cell Phone Plan Offers:
- Reduced costs as the number of lines and devices increase.
- Multiple lines and devices free of charge.
- International coverage.
- Data-only plans.
- Unlimited options for talk, data, and/or text.

Are you looking for a small business cell phone plan to stay in touch with your customers and team members?
A business cell phone plan gives you the freedom and flexibility to answer calls, communicate with your team, and attend meetings while on the go. It helps you stay connected from anywhere in the world.
In this article, we’ll share the best small business cell phone plans with pros and cons, so you can pick the best solution for your needs.
Why Do You Need a Business Cell Phone Plan?
A business cell phone plan is important for many small business owners, so they can keep their business phone separate from their personal phone and easily coordinate with other team members.
With the right cell phone plan, your customer support staff will be able to help out customers and respond to their questions while on the go. This way you can improve retention and create a long-term relationship with your customers.
Similarly, if you have a remote team spread across different locations, then a cell phone plan can improve business communication since you can hold webinars and meetings to keep everyone connected.
As a business owner, you have a lot of choices when it comes to selecting a cell phone plan for your company. There are traditional wireless carriers, business VoIP services , and virtual calling systems that provide a business cell phone service.
That said, let’s look at some of the best small business cell phone plans in the market.
Nextiva is the best VoIP and virtual business phone service in the market. It’s a cloud-based business phone system that offers a powerful set of features, and it’s super easy to set up.
This is what we use for our business here at WPBeginner.
Nextiva is often referred to as a UCaaS (unified communication as a service) because it brings separate communication channels like video, text message chat, voice, and collaboration tools together in one place.
There are Nextiva apps for mobile phones, tablets, desktop, and even desk phones, so your team can use a separate business phone number or extension without needing two separate devices which helps reduce cost.
Some of the features you get include an auto-attendant feature, HD video conferencing option, nationwide unlimited calling and SMS messages, free number porting, voicemail to email notifications, toll-free numbers , a cloud-based VoIP call center, cloud PBX, call pop with caller ID details, and more.
The VoIP service also helps your team improve communication and automate different workflows . For example, you can set up email automation and create automated replies to quickly respond to business customer queries that come in through your WordPress website.
Another benefit of using Nextiva is that it easily integrates with other communication tools and CRMs like Salesforce, Google Contacts, Zendesk, Oracle Sales Cloud, Zoho, and more.
Nextiva offers 3 business cell phone plans that you can choose from.
- Essential – The prices start from $18.95 per user per month, and you get unlimited voice and video calling, toll-free numbers, Outlook and Google contacts integrations, and more.
- Professional – Starting at $22.95 per user per month. In addition to the features in the Essential plan, you also get unlimited conference calls, a screen-sharing option, mobile and desktop SMS/MMS feature, auto-attendant, and more.
- Enterprise – In this plan, you get all the features that Nextiva offers, and it will cost $32.95 per user per month. Plus, you get a call recording option, Microsoft Teams integration, voicemail transcription, and more.
If you’re looking for a small business cell phone plan that doesn’t require getting a separate device and allows for sharing the business phone number with multiple team members, then Nextiva is the way to go.
This is what we use for our business, and many other top organizations like UnitedWay, TacoBell, YMCA, Stanford University, and others also use Nextiva for their business phone.
RingCentral is also one of the best business cell phone services that you can use for your website. The VoIP phone service provider allows your support team to handle customer support from anywhere using its Android and iOS mobile app and desktop app.

There’s also an auto-attend feature in RingCentral and advanced call handling features where support agents can see the caller’s interaction history, get real-time analytics , and allow managers or another team member to take over a call.
RingCentral offers 4 business cell phone plans that you can use, and the best part is that you get a 14-day free trial.

Grasshopper is a top virtual phone service for small businesses that’s affordable and packed with valuable features.
Using Grasshopper, you can get a toll-free number, a local number, a vanity number, and transfer users to an existing virtual number easily. The cloud-based phone service offers a desktop and mobile phone app, so you can take calls and respond to messages from anywhere.
Other than that, you can set up custom greetings to welcome callers and ensure that you never miss a call by routing customers to another phone or team member. The service also offers virtual fax , voicemail, incoming call controls, analytics, and more.
The only downside is that Grasshopper is only available in the USA and Canada. That said, you get a 7-day free trial with 3 premium plans.

Other than that, AT&T offers a video streaming feature, but the video quality will depend on your plan. It also offers powerful security measures to protect your business. For instance, you get spam and fraud call blocking, identity monitoring, safe browsing, and more.
There are the 3 business cell phone plans offered by AT&T, and you get to choose up to 10 lines per plan. However, the prices go down if you select 6 to 10 lines per plan. Also if you exceed the data limit, then your internet speeds are slowed down to 128 Kbps.
We’ll show you prices for 6 – 10 lines.

Besides, the wireless carrier offers different security measures. For instance, you can use its call filter to block spam , protect your device against phishing and web risks, Wi-Fi protection notice, and more.
Verizon offers 3 different pricing plans, and you can choose the number of lines you require. The more lines you add, the lower will be the overall prices.

It’s simple to use, and you can stay connected with your customers and team from anywhere. Plus, it offers mobile, desktop, and tablet apps, so you handle calls, take meetings, organize workflows, and provide a great customer experience while on the go.
RingCentral and Ooma are great alternatives for Nextiva, and they round out the top 3 providers on our list.

What We Like
- Full-flight texting and Wi-Fi with streaming
- High data caps
- Anti-scam feature
- Most valuable features locked in high-tier plans
- Flat rate for international calls are more expensive than other providers
- Coverage inferior to other providers, such as Verizon
- Select: $25 for unlimited call and text, unlimited 5G and 4G LTE data, mobile hotspot of up to 5GB data, and premium data of 50GB
- Advanced: $30 for mobile hotspot of up to 50GB data and premium data of 100GB
- Ultimate: $30 for mobile hotspot of up to 100GB data, unlimited premium data, and unlimited full-flight Wi-Fi sessions
- Ultimate+ for iPhone: $40 for 200GB high-speed hotspot data, Apple Business Essentials, and AppleCare+
*Per phone line; estimated for six lines
T-Mobile is the ideal cell phone plan for businesses with remote teams or members who are always on the move because it has features supporting international communications and travels. For instance, its basic business phone plan provides unlimited texts and up to 5GB of high-speed data in 11 countries. For select countries and destinations, there’s unlimited data at up to 256Kbps.
Additionally, this business cell phone plan supports the use of devices in Mexico and Canada. Have up to 5GB of high-speed data in these countries while enjoying unlimited talk and text.
Aside from its international and travel-related features, the impressive data cap is most notable about T-Mobile’s cell phone plan. Its most advanced package has no limit, meaning you can enjoy a reliable internet connection consistently.
However, since unlimited data is only available in the highest-tier plan, it costs more. The high cost is a major drawback of T-Mobile’s cell phone plan. Most of its valuable perks and features are locked behind its most expensive plans. If you’re looking for a cheap business phone plan for your business, it’s worth considering Google Voice instead.

- Internet on board: Enjoy in-flight Wi-Fi with streaming on Alaska Airlines and select American, Delta, and United flights. To use this feature, enable Wi-Fi Calling on your phone, connect to the airline’s Wi-Fi network, and enter your phone number on the Gogo inflight page.
- Microsoft 365 access: T-Mobile’s Advanced and Ultimate packages includes Microsoft Office license, giving access to productivity tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The collaboration tools Microsoft Teams and One Drive (1TB cloud storage) are also included.
- Scam Shield Premium: Block robocalls and spam messages with T-Mobile’s enhanced call-blocking features. With its name ID, you’ll be able to identify unknown numbers. This, however, is only available for the Ultimate plan.
RingCentral: Suitable for Facilitating Team Collaboration
- Unlimited calling in the U.S. and Canada
- Advanced call management features
- Team messaging
- Document sharing
- Wide range of features is overwhelming to some
- Poor customer service, according to some users
- Video meetings are not available on the basic plan
RingCentral Monthly Pricing*
- Essentials: $29.99 for unlimited calls within the U.S. and Canada, call management features, enhanced business SMS, and toll-free minutes
- Standard: $37.99 for unlimited internet fax, unlimited audio conferencing, video meetings of up to 100 participants, and on-demand call recording
- Premium: $44.99 for automatic call recording, multisite admin and management, real-time analytics, and customer relationship management (CRM) integrations

If your idea of the best business cell phone plan is one that supports team collaboration, RingCentral is the recommended solution. It packs a range of unified communication features, including team messaging, video conferencing, and file sharing.
On top of this, you benefit from its advanced call management features, including the multilevel auto-attendant, call recording, audio and video conferencing, overflow call queues, and answering rules. While these ultimately improve customer service, they also help your team become more efficient, another plus point to collaboration.
Unfortunately, the abundance of features on RingCentral gets a little overwhelming to some. It might take a while before you’re able to maximize all the phone solutions’ capabilities. It also doesn’t help that the company’s customer service isn’t responsive, according to recent user reviews. If you want to explore more voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) system options, refer to our list of the best business phone systems .

Verizon: Ideal Option for Securing Reliable Coverage
- Unlimited talk, text, and data
- 5G Nationwide and 4G LTE
- Unlimited mobile hotspot
- Call filter spam blocker
- Inaccessible price point versus other competitors
- International calls are more expensive than other providers
- Mobile hotspot slows down when you surpass data plan limits
- Devices must be compatible with 5G to take advantage of the network
Verizon Monthly Pricing*
- Start: $30 for unlimited talk, text, and data, unlimited mobile hotspot, and 5G Nationwide/4G LTE network access
- Plus: $35 for 100GB premium network access, 5G ultra-wideband, call filter spam blocker, and business mobile secure
- Pro: $45 for unlimited premium network access and discounts on tablet offerings
- VoIP Business Digital Voice: $35 for one to 10 phone lines and standard VoIP features, such as call forwarding, call transfer, inbound caller ID, speed dial, call hold, and call waiting
*Per phone line; estimated for five or more lines
When it comes to coverage, Verizon tops the list of the best small business cell phone plans. The company’s 4G LTE network covers more than 2.68 million square miles in the country. Its coverage and performance were recognized by third-party firm RootMetrics in its 1H2022 report . It also emerged as the top provider in J.D. Power’s wireless network quality performance report, beating T-Mobile and AT&T in almost every region.
In addition, the company rolled out 5G ultra-wideband in over 1,700 cities earlier this year. This, along with 5G Nationwide, ensures that users have a reliable network wherever they are.
Considering all these, Verizon is an excellent choice if your business operates in several locations or has team members who travel frequently—maximize unlimited talk, text, and data provided in their phone plans. However, note that the mobile hotspot data is reduced once you’ve used up 5GB to 100GB of data.
Another drawback you’ll encounter with Verizon is the possibility that your device isn’t compatible with the 5G technology. In this case, you have to swap it for a newer phone model to maximize the broadband network. Verizon offers a range of 5G-supported phone models, including Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S22, and compared to T-Mobile and AT&T, it has the most affordable monthly price point.
Verizon notifies users about potential spam callers. (Source: Verizon )
- Tablet device: When you subscribe to Verizon’s highest-tier plan, you’ll get a 50% discount on tablets. The Business Unlimited Tablet Start is priced at $30 per month and includes 5G Nationwide/4G LTE and video streaming at 480p.
- Call filter spam blocker: Worry no more over spam calls as your phone plan includes an app that automatically detects and blocks these messages.
- Business Mobile Secure: This protects your phone against phishing and other online risks. It also alerts you when the device tries to connect to unsecured Wi-Fi.
Nextiva: Excellent Cell Phone Plan With Video Meetings
- Video meeting capabilities available even on the basic plan
- Toll-free minutes and toll-free numbers
- Third-party integrations
- Limited duration for video meetings
- Integrations are locked behind high-tier plans
Nextiva Monthly Pricing*
- Essential: $29.95 for unlimited calls within the U.S. and Canada, toll-free numbers, 1,500 toll-free minutes, and unlimited internet fax
- Professional: $33.95 for unlimited conference calls for up to 40 participants
- Enterprise: $43.95 for unlimited participants on conference calls and integrations with CRM tools
*Per user for five to 19 users; save up to 27% by paying annually
Like RingCentral, Nextiva has unified communications features, which means you have messaging and video on top of calls in one cell phone plan. What’s most notable about this small business phone plan provider is its video conferencing features, which are offered in all three plans. This allows businesses to hold meetings for up to 45 minutes and up to 250 participants. Additionally, video conference recording is available on all packages.
Also included in Nextiva’s meeting features are scheduling tools and calendar integrations with Google and Outlook. If your team relies on video for team huddles, client presentations, and talent recruitment, Nextiva makes the best cell phone plans for the business. Enjoy great voice calling features, including unlimited calls within the U.S. and Canada, free number porting , call log reports, and toll-free minutes of up to 12,500 minutes.
Unfortunately, this VoIP solution limits the duration and number of participants in video meetings. They only last up to 45 minutes and up to 250 participants. Another disadvantage is that the international calling rates are more expensive than others in the market. For instance, calls to Mexico are charged 16 cents per minute. In comparison, RingCentral charges 1 cent per minute. Explore other small business VoIP services here.
Nextiva has an auto-attendant, which transfers incoming calls to different extensions. (Source: Nextiva )
- Auto-attendant : Improve call management and reduce missed calls with an auto-attendant, transferring incoming calls to specific extensions in your organization. With this, your employees will have more time for more complex tasks. Multilevel auto-attendant features are available for Professional and Enterprise plans.
- Bring your own device (BYOD) : Feel free to use your own mobile phones when you get Nextiva’s plans. The provider supports BYOD and lets users add their devices to the software manually.
- Third-party app integrations: Use existing tools with Nextiva’s platform. The VoIP solution supports MS Outlook, Zendesk, NetSuite, HubSpot, Oracle, Google Contacts, Salesforce, and Workbooks.

AT&T: Great Option for Enhanced Mobile Security
- International roaming
- Higher priority is given to business data during data surges
- Unlimited texts to over 200 countries
- Internet service quality declines due to data caps
- Expensive add-ons, including unlimited international calling ($7.50 per line, per month)
- Meager hotspot allowance
AT&T Monthly Pricing*
- Starter: $30 for 5GB mobile hotspot data per line, mobile security, and standard-definition video streaming
- Performance: $35 for 40GB mobile hotspot data per line and high-definition video streaming with Stream Saver turned off
- Elite: $40 for 100GB mobile hotspot data per line, advanced mobile security, AT&T Business Fast Track, high-definition, and 4K ultra-high-definition video streaming, roaming services for Latin America
*Per phone line for six lines
AT&T provides all the standard perks of business cell phone service: unlimited domestic data, talk, and text, access to a 5G network, and mobile hotspot data, which goes up to 5GB. What sets it apart from its competitors is its security features. The AT&T ActiveArmor mobile security blocks spam and fraud calls. The advanced version, available on Performance and Elite business phone plans, includes identity monitoring and safe browsing.
Another advantage to choosing AT&T is the hardware options. Some devices come with discounts and deals. Besides mobile phones, the company offers tablets and smartwatches, which help facilitate mobility and increase employee productivity.
Although AT&T is a leader in internet connectivity, the connection, unfortunately, slows down after hitting your data cap. As a result, most businesses are then forced to upgrade to high-tier plans to get a high data cap.
Prioritize business data and applications when there’s an internet traffic surge with AT&T’s Business Fast Track. (Source: AT&T )
- AT&T ActiveArmor Advanced: This app identifies unknown callers and sends reports when companies you do business with experience a data breach. Other features include reverse number lookup, theft alerts for Android devices, and public Wi-Fi protection.
- International roaming: Keep team members connected even when you go places with AT&T’s unlimited talk, text, and data in Latin America.
- Business Fast Track: Preselect specific apps to reduce the impact of data surges.
Google Voice: Best for Affordable Calls & Texts
- Affordable pricing
- Starter plan packed with valuable features
- Free local phone numbers
- Allows integrations with Google tools only
- Advanced calling features are not available
- Doesn’t offer toll-free and vanity numbers
Google Voice Monthly Pricing*
- Starter: $10 for calls to the U.S. and Canada from any Google voice number, calls to most European countries from within Europe, unlimited text messaging in the U.S., and Google Workspace integrations
- Standard: $20 for multilevel auto-attendant and ring groups
- Premier: $30 for unlimited international locations and advanced reporting
*Plans are paid per user
Google Voice emerges as the cheapest business phone plan since it starts at the monthly price of $10 per user. Its affordable packages come with several features, including unlimited calls and texts. Some of Google Voice’s Starter package features are included in other providers’ high-tier business phone plans. These capabilities include voicemail transcription, call forwarding, and integrations with other tools, such as Google Calendar and Google Meet.
While Google Voice offers excellent call features, it lacks advanced capabilities such as real-time analytics or hotdesking. Additionally, toll-free and vanity numbers are not supported. If you’re looking for phone systems with a rich feature set that lets you make unlimited calls worldwide, choose RingCentral or explore other Google Voice alternatives .
Given that Google Voice is a virtual phone number service, you must have an existing phone number where the calls will be forwarded. This means you need to be constantly plugged into an internet connection. This shouldn’t be a problem, though, since your mobile device and desktop computer are internet-enabled.
Google Voice Features
On Google Voice’s dashboard, you will see on the right panel the names of users in the phone system, numbers, locations, and auto-attendant details. (Source: Google Workspace )
- Ring groups: Manage incoming calls better with Google Voice, as the system alerts multiple devices at the same time until someone in your ring group answers. This feature, however, isn’t available in the Starter plan.
- Call recording : Since you’re able to monitor calls with this feature, it will be easy to train employees and recalibrate strategies for handling calls. Explore other apps capable of call recording here.
- Multilevel auto-attendant: Speed up the process of addressing a caller’s concern. Configure the attendant with consideration of the customers’ frequently asked questions.
For its affordable pricing, Google Voice offers solid features small businesses need. If you’re curious about the platform’s other capabilities, check out our Google Voice review . It’s also wise to weigh pay-as-you-go vs prepaid VoIP solutions, especially when affordability is a top priority.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What’s the difference between a standard cell phone plan and a voip system.
Standard business cell phone plans take advantage of 5G and 4G towers and typically are attached to specific provider phones. These provide their own service using these towers in the U.S. and sometimes international markets. With a VoIP system, like RingCentral or Nextiva, your phone won’t have service by default but will be able to take advantage of Wi-Fi signals to make business calls.
What is an uptime service level agreement?
Many cell phone carriers offer phone plans with specific uptime service level agreements or SLAs. These guarantee a certain level of service availability, which is typically measured per year. For example, with a 99.9% uptime guarantee, you are guaranteed no more than eight hours and 41 minutes of yearly downtime. Check out our guide to service level agreements to understand more.
Are phones cheaper on a business account?
Most carriers want to take advantage of economy of scale, so typically, you can find some very good deals on hardware. Additionally, rather than paying the cost of your device immediately, most carriers offer per-month payment plans that will help offset costs.
In the battle among business mobile phone plans, T-Mobile emerges as the best. It’s more affordable than its direct competitors, and its features support a remote team who’s always on the go, particularly the in-flight Wi-Fi services. Additionally, you benefit from the Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint included in the plans. However, if you prefer a VoIP solution with advanced call management and unified communication features, go with RingCentral.

Business.org’s 5 best business cell phone plans
At&t: best full-featured plans.
Looking for a broad choice of bells and whistles? As a telecom behemoth, AT&T has plenty of cell phone features and packages to offer a business—around 20 plan variations, small to large. All plans include free US roaming, unlimited talk, and text messages, as well as unlimited texting outside of the country. Basic features like call forwarding, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, and conference calling also come standard with all AT&T business cell phone plans, along with bring-your-own-phone support.
AT&T's business cell phone plans
Data as of 12/7/22. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.
Business Unlimited plan prices start at $35 a month per line, and there is a new perk where unlimited data is included in the unlimited talk and text plan. This means there is no need to worry about overages or data caps.
AT&T business plans can also accommodate up to 10 lines per account, and they come fully loaded with perks—like Stream Saver. This feature optimizes streaming video on your phone to 480p so you can watch webinars on-the-go without dealing with a blurry picture.
Each plan also includes a decent array of iOS and Android smartphone options and even a few good ol’ flip phones. A 15% military veteran discount can be applied to the Business Unlimited plans, as well as AT&T-owned DIRECTV services (because, again, telecom behemoth).
Users are eligible for a discount if they elect for autopay and paperless billing but this discount is only applied until after two pay periods. We don't know why the discount cannot be applied earlier in the billing process but we do find it frustrating.
T-Mobile: Best flexible plans
Not sure exactly what you’ll need in a mobile plan besides future adaptability? T-Mobile, the third-largest wireless service in the US, offers four Magenta® for Business plans, all packed with unique features that set T-Mobile apart from the rest. The German-owned company has also earned a reputation for stellar customer service and was the first to eliminate annual contracts (an idea that stuck—none of the plans reviewed on this page require contracts). In April 2018, the company announced its intention to merge with Sprint under the T-Mobile banner.
T-Mobile's business cell phone plans
Data as of 12/7/22. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change. *While using AutoPay.
All of T-Mobile’s Business cell phone plans offer the same basic features:
Unlimited talk and text
Unlimited 5G and 4G LTE data on our network
- Unlimited mobile hotspot
- Scam Shield
Unlimited calling and texting to Mexico & Canada
Unlimited video streaming
In addition, all T-Mobile Business plans include DIGITS, which allows you to access up to five phone numbers on a single device. That means you could answer calls to your work number and your personal number on one device—no more packing two phones in your bag every day. DIGITS also lets you share your phone number across multiple devices, so you can answer on your phone, smartwatch, tablet, or computer.
T-Mobile users with a Business plan can also add the PlusUp add-on and get extra features, like Voicemail to Text, HD streaming, 20 GB of 4G LTE mobile hotspot data, unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi, caller ID, and double the data speed when roaming internationally.
Keep in mind, though, that T-Mobile’s Business plans are available only on plans with two to 13 lines. If you need more than 13 lines, you’ll need to sign up for the 13+ Plan ($285 per month for 13 lines, plus $25 per month for each additional line).
T-Mobile plans also allow bring-your-own-device convenience, or you can buy phones up front with a single payment (there are nearly 40 iOS and Android phones to choose from).
Now that T-Mobile and Sprint have been merged for almost six months, some significant changes have taken effect. T-Mobile’s website is now the only place businesses can sign up for Sprint or T-Mobile business phone accounts.
Sprint still has an active business website for previous users but all new plans will be sold by T-Mobile on its website.
Verizon: Best growing business plans
Serving over 150 million customers, Verizon isn’t just big, it’s BIG. Such a mobile mammoth might not seem like the obvious choice for a small business, but for what it lacks in a personalized customer service reputation, Verizon more than makes up for by offering every cell phone feature there is, as well as dominant US, and near-dominant global, coverage. Like McDonald’s and Marvel movies, Verizon is everywhere.
Verizon's business cell phone plans
Data as of 12/7/22. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change. *With 4+ lines
While business owners can get business cell phone plans with limited data, we recommend choosing an unlimited plan if you have multiple employees (or do a lot of work via cell phone).
Verizon’s Business Unlimited cell phone plans are scalable from four employees up to and over 40. And with plans starting at just $40 per line, Verizon Business Unlimited plans are an attractive option whether you’re running a tiny company with no expansion plans, a medium-sized business with an eye toward growth, or a large enterprise with heavy cell phone requirements.
Verizon Beyond Unlimited plans also include unlimited mobile hotspot use, though your speeds are limited depending on your plan. Plus, you get unlimited calling and texting to Mexico and Canada—not to mention unlimited calling, texting, and data while in those countries. And naturally, you also get unlimited talk and text as part of your Beyond Unlimited package.
Verizon doesn’t skimp on device choices either. There are nearly 100 iOS and Android phones and tablets available—including the Verizon Jetpack, a mobile hotspot device that can connect 10 devices to its 4G LTE network and an additional five to 3G.
If your company requires truly “unlimited” cell phone service and scalability to grow and is in the position to pay for functionality with frills, Verizon Business Unlimited is the way to go. Bare-bones operations, however, might want to look elsewhere.
Each of our recommendations has its strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes the most difficult part about finding a phone system is determining exactly what you need and don't need. The best place to start is separating your needs between installing a new system, replacing a system or expanding system.
If you are having trouble sorting out exactly what your phone needs are, use this tool to help you understand what the best options are for your unique needs.
MintMobile: Most affordable plans
We are sure you’ve seen the commercials with Ryan Reynolds talking about this new phone carrier business with a fox logo called Mint Mobile. In fact, a lot of Mint customers were drawn to Mint because of Ryan Reynolds Hollywood looks, but that’s not the only thing Mint has to offer.
Mint is inexpensive and transparent, compared to other cell phone carriers with hidden fees and seemingly random regulations.
MintMobile's business cell phone plans
Data as of 12/7 /22 . Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.
T hese are the prices for new customers and will last up to three months. After the third month, you are eligible to sign up for a 6- or 12-month contract on one of the tiered plans, all less than $35/mo/user, which is astronomically less than other providers.
MintMobile is no fuss, and you really do feel like you must be tricking the rest of the world with its pricing. The only issue is that MintMobile is fairly new, launched in 2015, coverage is not completely everywhere. There are still a couple of coverage gaps in the West, namely Utah, Nebraska, Idaho and Nevada. If you are east of the Rocky Mountains, you are good to go!
Teltik: Best perks plans
If you’re a strapped startup, New Jersey’s Teltik can get you up and running on the cheap. Teltik is a reseller service operating on T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network, meaning it can offer the reliability and reach of a giant provider at smaller-company prices. Teltik also has the advantage of being completely US-based, with 24/7 local customer service that’s not outsourced overseas.
Teltik's business cell phone plans
3 more (non-business) cell phone plans reviewed by business.org.
Teltik appears to have a dozen plans, but they’re mostly just variations of the essential plan that offers all the expected basics. Not coincidentally, the features mirror those of T-Mobile, as they’re on the same network.
The most basic plan starts at $20 a month and includes unlimited calling and texting, mobile hotspot service, and unlimited data—with a 2 GB cap on 4G LTE speeds (meaning your speed gets throttled to 128 Kbps if you use more than 2 GB of data in a month). From there, you can upgrade your plan to include more 4G LTE data and more mobile hotspot data. Upgraded plans cost anywhere from $30 to $40 per month, and they all include one cloud-phone VoIP line—perfect for small businesses looking to save on all their telecommunications needs.
One distinctly entertaining feature (pun intended) of Teltik’s business plans? You get unlimited media streaming from over 40 music services (including Spotify, Pandora, and Apple Music) and more than 100 video services (including YouTube, Netflix, and any other channel you can think of). That means you can stream as much TV as you want without it eating into your data. It’s almost as if Teltik doesn’t want you to get any work done.
Another thing you need to know: Teltik doesn’t sell phones. Instead, the company operates on a strict bring-your-own-device basis. Any unlocked phone will work with its network, as will any T-Mobile device, of course. However, you will have to spend $10 plus shipping and handling to buy a new SIM card for each of your devices (unless they’ve already got brand-new, unused T-Mobile SIM cards).
Assess your company’s current cell phone usage, and projected future needs, before diving into any plan. What looks like a great deal could turn out to be more than you actually need—or you may have initially underestimated your business’s cell phone requirements. Also, if your company has both cell phone and regular office phone needs, check into bundling. The larger telecom providers offer both types of phone coverage, and bundling services is an easy way to save money in the long run.
Don’t want to carry around separate phones for work and personal calls? With the right VoIP service, you don’t have to. Check out our favorite business VoIP providers to see which ones offer on-the-go business phone capabilities.
Business cell phone plan FAQs
If you have several employees working outside of the office on a regular basis, desk-bound phones obviously aren’t going to work for them. Some may be only calling and texting while others will be checking email, using GPS navigation, and accessing the internet for work, but a cell phone is a must for employees in the field.
If you’re a one-person operation accountable to only yourself, you could get by with a personal cell plan. Keeping track of multiple employees’ hours, data, and providers, however, would be an extra headache you don’t need. For streamlining and collaboration purposes, a business cell phone plan would be the easier route.
How much data does a small business need?
Most of the plans we’ve reviewed here offer unlimited data—domestically, at least—so hitting the data ceiling won’t likely be an issue. But if you want to forecast how much data your business uses every month, providers make data plan estimators available on their websites. Or you could use a third-party calculator app.
BYOD stands for bring your own device . Another common term is BYOP for bring your own phone . These can mean that employees are using their personal phones, tablets, or laptops on their own carrier plans for work or that they’ve put those devices on the company’s plan. The upside? Less expensive than buying devices. The downside? Extra security concerns.
What’s a mobile hotspot?
In the annoying absence of Wi-Fi, you can use a cell phone signal to connect a wireless device to the internet by switching on the mobile hotspot option and simply treating it like a Wi-Fi router. For multiple device connections, a dedicated hotspot (such as Verizon’s Jetpack) can provide a faster, and more stable, connection.

If you need basic features for a low cost, Mint Mobile will likely be the best option for you. And, for businesses that need superior coverage in as many places in the country as possible, look no further than big-name options like AT&T and Verizon Wireless.
What is the best business cell phone plan?
There are a lot of factors to consider when trying to decide on the best cell phone plan for your business. The size of your company, how many lines you need, and what features you require will all play a role in deciding which plan is best for you.
RingCentral is a great option for small businesses. They have plans starting at just $20/month per line. AT&T and Verizon are both good choices for larger businesses with more complex needs. AT&T has a variety of plans starting at $35/month per line, while Verizon offers unlimited data plans starting at $45/month per line.
If you're looking for a budget-friendly option, Mint Mobile is a great choice. Their plans start at just $15/month per line, and they offer a variety of features that can fit your business's needs.
What is an unlimited plan?
An unlimited plan is a phone plan that offers an unlimited amount of data, talk, and text. There are a few different types of unlimited plans, but the most common are postpaid and prepaid.
Postpaid plans are the traditional type of phone plan that you pay for at the end of the month. The four major carriers in the United States (RingCentral, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) all offer postpaid unlimited plans. These plans typically start at $60 per month for one line, with discounts for additional lines.
Prepaid plans are a newer type of phone plan where you pay for your service upfront. The three major carriers in the United States (Mint Mobile, Boost Mobile, MetroPCS) all offer prepaid unlimited plans. These plans typically start at $50 per month for one line, with discounts for additional lines.
Does Mint Mobile offer unlimited data?
Yes, Mint Mobile offers unlimited plans that include talk, text, and data. Like most other mobile wireless carriers, Mint Mobile's data speeds slow down after a certain limit is met. With Mint Mobile, you can also bring your own device to save even more.
Does RingCentral offer unlimited talk?
RingCentral offers a variety of pricing plans to fit the needs of any business, including an unlimited talk plan. This plan provides businesses with unlimited local and long-distance calling, as well as features like caller ID, call waiting, and voicemail.
RingCentral's unlimited talk plan is a great option for businesses that make a lot of calls or for businesses with employees who work from home or on the go.
Is it better to go with major wireless carriers?
When it comes to choosing a wireless carrier, there are a few things to consider. The first is whether you want to go with one of the major carriers or a smaller provider. There are pros and cons to both, so it's important to weigh your options before making a decision.
The major benefit of going with a major carrier is that they usually have the best coverage. This means you'll be able to get service in more places and have fewer dropped calls. They also typically have the latest and greatest phones since they're able to negotiate exclusive deals with manufacturers.
On the downside, major carriers can be more expensive than their smaller counterparts. They also tend to have more restrictive plans, so if you like having a lot of data or talk time, you may be better off going elsewhere.
What's the best phone service for small business owners?
There are a lot of different phone services out there, so it can be hard to know which one is best for your small business. The best phone service for small business owners is one that is reliable and has features that will help you run your business.
Is Google Voice a good business phone solution?
Overall, Google Voice is a good option for businesses that are looking for an affordable VoIP solution with features like call forwarding and voicemail transcription. New customers can use any compatible device they choose to make and receive calls. You can port an existing phone number and, using the Google Voice app, make calls from mobile devices. As a small business, you can also choose your own billing cycle with Google Voice.
